Internet Treasure Hunt for Pioneer Technology and Living

Guide your students' learning about the life and hardships of the early settlers through participation in this treasure hunt.  Students will examine a series of web sites in order to answer questions designed to make them reflect on the tools and technology used by the pioneers, and how it impacted their living.  Students complete this teacher-made activity by answering a question that requires critical thinking.  An answer guide is available for teacher use, along with a rubric for grading.

Students then become further engaged in their learning by creating their own treasure hunt based upon the model which they have just completed.  They are provided with a number of web sites which they must visit and choose from, in order to generate a series of questions.  The final question is, once again, expected to be a BIG question that requires deep-thinking.  The completed projects may then be shared with other students.

This activity meets many of the learning outcomes for grade 3.  It is designed for working with partners to enhance learning through discussion and decision-making.
